Can Gao testing the acoustics at Memorial Hall

"I am having an AMAZING time so far-- I'm so happy to be here!" - Elena Urioste

Thursday, 31 May 2007.

The glorious weather in
Queenstown has packed in temporarily and rain was steady throughout the day.

Masterclasses at the New Zealand School of Music were given today by Pierre Amoyal and Dene Olding.

The last competitor to arrive, Eugene Nakamura, was due at 4:20 this afternoon (after a long flight originating in London). Regrettably, because of the low clouds (and the high mountains!) he was redirected to Invercargill and is presently
riding a
bus the last few hours into Queenstown.

Judges Boris Kuschnir and Pierre Amoyal have arrived, as has chamber musicians Ashley Brown and Irena Morozova (well.... almost.... she's on the same bus as Eugene).

Competitors rehearsed with their pianists and each had a 30 minute acoustic rehearsal at Memorial Hall.
