FAQs

How do I know if I've been selected?

Applicants will have received an e-mail from the Competition advising whether or not you had been selected as a semifinalist or alternate. Additionally, all the semi-finalists (and alternates) have been listed on the website.

Will our application materials be returned to us?

Unfortunately we are unable to return the applications.

When will I need to submit my repertoire?

We would appreciate receiving your repertoire selection by or before the 1st of February. It will then be checked for accuracy, and will be run past Mr Dene Olding, the Artistic Adviser, for final approval. No changes can be made without permission of the Competition, and absolutely no changes will be accepted after 1 May.

Why do I need a Visa to enter New Zealand?

Unless you hold a New Zealand or Australian passport, you must obtain a visa and this is the responsibilty or each of the semi-finalists. The New Zealand government considers compensation for airfare and accommodation (and potential prize money) to be earnings, therefore, a short-term working visa is required. The Competition will assist by providing some of the necessary documentation to support your visa application. It will be necessary for you to send your passport to a New Zealand consulate or embassy to receive your visa. Depending on your residency and citizenship, this could take a few weeks, so plan accordingly. You will not be allowed on the New Zealand-bound airplane without your visa.
